Handmade Vietnamese fabric lamps from KAHA, an example of where to buy lamps made in Vietnam

  A Buyer’s Guide · Delivery Across Vietnam

Where to buy lamps in Vietnam — and what’s actually worth buying.

Vietnam has several ways to buy a lamp: mass-market lighting streets, mall stores selling imports, craft villages, online marketplaces, and makers who build to order. Here is how they differ, how to size, pack and pay for one, and why a handmade fabric shade is worth seeking out.

A Guide, Not a Sales Pitch

Several honest answers to one question.

“Where to buy a lamp in Vietnam” has more than one honest answer, because it depends what you want: a fixture fast, an imported brand name, or a piece actually made by hand here. KAHA is one option in the last category — a fabric lamp maker in Ho Chi Minh City that ships nationwide. This page covers the landscape first, then walks through sizing, ordering, pricing, packing, sockets and delivery in detail, before ending with a city-by-city snapshot.

Nothing here is written to talk any single channel down. Mass-market stores, malls, craft villages and marketplaces all serve real buyers well for some purposes — the goal of this guide is simply to make the differences clear enough that you can pick the right one for what you actually need.

The Landscape

Five channels for buying a lamp in Vietnam.

None of these is wrong — they just answer different needs. Knowing which one you actually want saves a lot of wasted shopping trips.

1
Mass-market lighting streets
2
Mall & import furniture stores
3
Craft villages
4
Online marketplaces
5
Direct-from-maker (e.g. KAHA)
Each channel suits a different buyer — this page focuses mainly on the fifth.

Mass-market lighting streets exist in most large Vietnamese cities and stock a wide range of imported LED fixtures and chandeliers at competitive prices. They are the fastest option if you need a fitting today and are not particular about the design being unique.

Mall and import furniture stores carry branded catalogue lighting, usually at a fixed price with no room for customisation on fabric, size or colour.

Craft villages are worth visiting for traditional materials at the source, though ordering a specific size or colour from a distance can be harder to arrange than working with a maker set up to take remote orders.

Online marketplaces offer the widest selection by volume, but fabric quality, construction and seller reliability vary listing to listing, which is why many buyers prefer to order directly from a maker whose work they can see in full first.

Why It’s Worth Seeking Out

A lamp made here, not just sold here.

A large share of what fills lighting stores in Vietnam is imported and assembled elsewhere — “sold in Vietnam,” not “made in Vietnam.” A handmade fabric lampshade is the opposite: the frame is welded and powder-coated locally, the cloth is cut and wrapped by hand, and the whole piece is finished and inspected before it ships.

That distinction matters if you want something that reflects where you actually live, or a gift that means more than an imported catalogue item.

Vietnamese Lamp Shades

Why Vietnam is good at this particular craft.

Fabric lampshade-making draws on the same textile and metalwork skills Vietnam already exports at scale — brushed linen, hand-woven raw tussah silk and hand-folded pleats, sourced from craft villages including Nam Định, Hội An and Vạn Phúc, wrapped over frames welded and powder-coated in Ho Chi Minh City.

A shade built this way is a genuine local craft object rather than a mass import with a Vietnam-adjacent label — the distinction that makes “Vietnamese lamp shades” worth specifying, rather than just “lamp shades bought in Vietnam.”

Shapes

Eighteen shapes, mostly three families.

Across KAHA’s catalogue, 18 shapes are on offer, and most of them fall into three broad silhouette families — drum, cone and bell — each built in a range of proportions for pendant, table and wall use. The illustration below is schematic; it shows the shape of the range rather than an exact one-to-one list of every named shape in stock.

Fabrics

Nine fabrics behind a Vietnamese lamp shade.

Fabric choice is what most changes a shade’s character: a tighter weave like taffeta reads crisper and more reflective under a bulb, while a looser or slubbed weave like raw tussah silk glows softer and less even. Two-tone silk shifts colour with the angle you view it from, and pleated cloth adds a defined vertical rhythm rather than a flat surface.

None of this is easy to judge from a product photo alone — it is one of the clearest reasons buyers who can visit in person do so, and why buyers ordering remotely are encouraged to ask for a swatch or a sample before a full production run.

How to Buy

How to buy a lampshade from KAHA, step by step.

Whether you are ordering from inside Vietnam or from abroad, the process is the same four steps — the only thing that changes is where the parcel ends up.

Timings sourced from KAHA's published quote/production process — real figures, not estimates.

1. Measure or send a photo

For a made-to-order lampshade, three measurements do most of the work: the top diameter, the bottom diameter, and the slant height (the diagonal from top edge to bottom edge). If you are replacing an existing shade, a photo of it next to a tape measure is often enough for us to confirm the fitter type and estimate the rest.

2. Get a quote

We aim to send a quote within roughly 30 minutes of receiving your size, fabric preference and delivery address. Catalogue pieces range from around $25 to roughly $735 depending on fabric and size; a custom order is priced individually.

3. Approve a sample

For anything custom, a sample is sent or shown before a production run starts — nothing is built at scale until you have confirmed the fabric, colour and size in front of you. Production typically runs 7–15 days once fabric, colour and quantity are confirmed.

4. Delivery, and what happens if something is wrong

Delivery is arranged nationwide across Vietnam and covered by shipping insurance — damage in transit is replaced at no cost if reported with photos within 24 hours of receipt. Manufacturing faults are covered for 12 months with a free replacement or refund. Change-of-mind returns after production has been confirmed are not covered, which is why the sample-approval step above matters.

Measuring Before You Order

How to measure a lampshade before ordering online.

Buying site-unseen works best when the numbers are right the first time. Top diameter, bottom diameter and slant height cover most shapes; note the fitter type as well — how the shade attaches to the lamp holder — if you are replacing an existing piece.

If you don’t have a tape measure handy, a clear photo of the old shade next to a common object of known size (a standard A4 sheet, a phone) is often enough for the team to estimate dimensions closely.

Reading a Price List

What affects cost, across 148 catalogue pieces.

Most of KAHA’s English-language catalogue sits under $100 — smaller table and pendant shades in everyday fabrics. Price climbs with size, with fabric (silk and pleated cloth generally cost more to work than linen or canvas), and with construction complexity such as a multi-tier cluster piece.

Quoted prices are ex-works Ho Chi Minh City and exclude freight, insurance and duties; volume pricing is confirmed once a quantity is set.

The Warranty

The 12-month warranty, and what it covers.

Manufacturing faults — a size that doesn’t match the confirmed specification, a colour that deviates from the approved sample, or a stitching or material defect — are covered for 12 months with a free replacement or refund. Damage in transit is separately covered by shipping insurance: report it with photos within 24 hours of receiving the parcel.

Not covered: a change of mind after production has been confirmed, design changes requested after a sample has been approved, or damage from incorrect installation or use once the lamp is installed.

Packing

Packing a lampshade for domestic delivery.

A fabric shade is more fragile in shape than in material — the frame can bend if crushed, and a sharp corner impact can dent a drum or crease a pleat. Orders shipped within Vietnam go out in five-layer carton packaging, sized and padded to the specific shape, which is also the same standard used for pieces sent to hotel and restaurant partners.

This is the same reasoning behind the shipping-insurance cover above: packing reduces the risk of transit damage, and the 24-hour photo-report window handles the rare case where something still goes wrong.

Travelling With a Lamp

Bringing a lamp home in your luggage.

A fabric lampshade is bulky for its weight rather than heavy for its size — a frame built from thin welded metal wrapped in cloth, which means the awkward part of travelling with one is usually the shape, not the mass. Smaller table and bedside shades pack reasonably well in a hard-shell suitcase with clothing as padding around the rim; larger pendant or cluster pieces are generally easier to have delivered than carried.

To be direct about what KAHA does and doesn’t offer: this is domestic delivery guidance, not an international shipping or export service — KAHA has not shipped an export order. Anyone flying out of Vietnam with a lamp should check their own airline’s baggage size and fragile-item policy before relying on checked luggage.

Sockets, Voltage, Bulbs

What runs under a Vietnamese-made shade.

KAHA shades are shade-only, with no built-in wiring, and mount onto a standard E27 or E14 lamp holder via a spider-fitter or gimbal ring. This matches Vietnam’s 220V mains supply and the same E27/E14 fitting used across most local and imported fixtures.

We recommend an LED bulb around 2700K warm white — it flatters fabric colour and runs cooler than halogen. Cool white bulbs in the 5000–6500K range are best avoided; they wash out a fabric shade’s warmth. If you are unsure what your existing lamp uses, a photo of the holder usually confirms compatibility.

Coastal city, hospitality-heavy — KAHA has built lighting for hotel and resort partners in central Vietnam. Buyers here order remotely with delivery arranged to the city.

Hoi An

A craft town in its own right, but for fabric lampshades specifically, KAHA ships in from Ho Chi Minh City — message us with your fitting size or a photo.

Nha Trang

Beach-resort market, no local KAHA presence. Delivery is arranged nationwide, so a Nha Trang order follows the same WhatsApp-quote-ship process as anywhere else.

Da Lat

Cooler climate, a lot of café and homestay lighting demand — orders from Da Lat are handled remotely with delivery to the city, no showroom visit required.

Vung Tau

Close enough to Ho Chi Minh City that a visit to the sample library is realistic for some buyers; otherwise, delivery is arranged the same as any other order.

Phu Quoc

Island resort market — orders are quoted and shipped remotely, with delivery timing confirmed at order time given the distance from Ho Chi Minh City.

Hai Phong

Northern port city, no local KAHA shop. WhatsApp remains the fastest way to get a quote, with delivery arranged nationwide to your address.

Can Tho

Mekong Delta hub, a manageable delivery distance from Ho Chi Minh City — orders are quoted and shipped the same way as anywhere else in the south.

Buying Guide FAQ

Questions about buying lamps in Vietnam.

It depends on the piece — handmade construction and material choice both affect price. We quote a specific fabric, shape and size within roughly 30 minutes of receiving a request, so you can compare before deciding.

Yes. Delivery is arranged nationwide across Vietnam. Send photos or measurements over WhatsApp and we quote and ship from the Ho Chi Minh City studio to your address.

KAHA works with nine fabrics and hand techniques — including brushed linen, hand-woven raw tussah silk and hand-folded pleats — sourced from craft villages such as Nam Định, Hội An and Vạn Phúc.

No — the studio and sample library are in Ho Chi Minh City only. Buyers elsewhere in Vietnam order remotely by WhatsApp, with delivery to their address.

It depends on the destination and the piece. We confirm a realistic delivery window together with your quote once we know what you are ordering and where it is going.

Yes. Frames come in 28 powder-coat colours as standard, and fabric can be dyed to a custom Pantone reference on request — useful for hospitality projects that need a consistent look across rooms.

At KAHA, catalogue pieces range from around $25 for a simple table shade to roughly $735 for a large, elaborate one — price depends on fabric, size and construction. Made-to-order pieces are quoted individually once we have your dimensions.

Three measurements cover most cases: top diameter, bottom diameter, and slant height (the diagonal distance from the top edge to the bottom edge). If you are replacing an old shade, a photo of it next to a tape measure usually works too.

Damage in transit is covered by shipping insurance — report it with photos within 24 hours of receipt and a replacement ships at no cost. Manufacturing faults such as a wrong size against the confirmed spec or a colour that deviates from the approved sample are covered for 12 months with a free replacement or refund.

Smaller table and bedside shades often pack reasonably well with clothing as padding; larger pendant pieces are usually easier to have delivered. This is general packing guidance, not an international shipping service — check your airline's own baggage and fragile-item policy before you fly.

Vietnam runs on 220V mains power with standard E27 or E14 bulb sockets — the same fitting KAHA builds every shade around. We recommend a 2700K warm-white LED bulb.
